They came from just a mile away,
From just across the town today,
And look at what they’ve got to say,
Here in Tulsa Town.
Well, they’re burning down the mercantile
Houses falling in a pile
I guess I’ll just watch a while,
Here in Tulsa town.
Well, Tulsa town is burnin’ down,
Ashes falling on the ground.
If you build it up, they’ll break it down.
Here in Tulsa Town.
Yesterday we’d both agree
“What’s this got to do with me?”
If they’d just, sweet lord, let me be
Here in Tulsa Town.
But they never listened to my plea
And tied me to this hanging tree
But that’s the way it goes you see
When they’re burning Tulsa DOWN
Well, Tulsa town is burnin’ down,
Ashes falling on the ground.
If you build it up, they’ll break it down.
Here in Tulsa Town.
What the hell’d I do to you?
That made you do the things you do?
What question’s this the answer to?
Here in Tulsa town.
And what a view I have today,
Watching as the willows sway,
Cinders falling black and grey
Here in Tulsa Town.
Well, Tulsa town is burnin’ down,
Ashes falling on the ground.
If you build it up, they’ll break it down.
Here in Tulsa Town.
Now the story’s going round
That I brought these men to Tulsa Town
That I caused all this burning down
Here in Tulsa Town.
But not a word of that is true
But what am I supposed to do
Hanging from this point of view?
Here in Tulsa Town.
Well, Tulsa town is burnin’ down,
Ashes falling on the ground.
If you build it up, they’ll break it down.
Here in Tulsa Town.
But the fire grew wider than they meant it to
And burned their houses through and through
That’s what fires will tend to do.
Here in Tulsa Town.
And all the ashes look the same.
Falling through the smoke and rain…
Swirling down the city drain…
Here in Tulsa Town.
Well, Tulsa town is burnin’ down,
Ashes falling on the ground.
If you build it up, they’ll break it down.
Here in Tulsa Town!

I've been listening to this album, and others, for a while but the live performances of 'Firecracker' and 'Wild Turkey' , as well ad 'Darlin' Cory', at the Transatlantic Sessions show at the RFH was another level. Live music is the best. The whole concert was insanely good. Shame not to hear 'Black Myself' in that setting but it was all near perfection as it was. oldjembo
